If you are not living under a rock you probably came across in the recent news that a BMW designer credits the recent American car buyers choosing white more than ever is largely due to the influence of Apple's product design.
Somewhat counter intuitive white is the best color to reveal the subtle contours of a 3 dimensional object. Evidently it is the preferred color in Japan for prototype styling design. When I designed my kitchen, I chose the high gloss white for the cabinet finish. I spent countless hours prototyping the projecting of the counter top front under all lighting conditions to determine a satisfactory amount.
To avoid the undesirable shadow cast by the overhanging counter top (at different lighting conditions) onto the gloss white cabinet finish I chose a minute 1/4" projection (overhang).
I have prefer white objects for a long time - long before the rise of Apple. My first white vehicle was the 1989 Vanagon Camper which I bought new. The color keeps the vehicle cool in the sun, and white actually high dirt better than most think. Compared to dark color, white paint also suffers much less deterioration from UV damage
it is so beautiful contrasting the black bumpers, mirrors weather strips, and vents; it reveal best the subtleties of the astute styling
After that all my vehicle purchases would be nothing but - white, and all white when no one would think of buying a Mini in such monotonic color when their online color configurator let you choose countless permutations of the roof, body, mirror, and optional racing strips.
arrives to portland spanking new, bought sight unseen from ohio paid before delivered - portland had a 1 year wait back in 200; it is the biggest online purchase i ever made
mini with running shoes - semiforged ssr light alloy wheels from japan
so too is the new-to-me land rover discovery
if i had a choice Tatyana would also be white...
update 9/2/12 - after seeing the westfalia james cook in white on youtube i realize Tatyana looks better in silver (a traditional german racing color). strangely most mercedes benz looks best in silver and many in black.
