new air conditioner for brunnhilde - part 5

The weather outlook for the next 5 days is all rainy. Today is the only windows to remove the air conditioner and seal up the roof before the rain comes.

i started the preparation for the removal of the Kerstner air conditioner in the morning; the morning sky as well as the forecast did not look encouraging
the rain clouds looked menacing
i remove the 6 hex bolts and from there there is no going back as the waterproofing of the roof is broken from this point on
i tried to break loose the air conditioner from pushing up on the evaporator assembly from inside the cabin without success; i decided to ply a small segment at at time - divide and conquer

there was 2 liters of rain water inside the condenser compartment bottom tray; i sponged out most of it but some water ran down one of the 6 hex bolt anchors before I realize; the water douse the speaker on the passenger side from behind but no damage was done

Bob and I agree to meet at 1:30 pm; when I arrive he already have the ladder set up

I climb up the ladder and put the 4:1 block and tackle I already built onto a loop with a climber's carabiner; I already came prepared with a hoist webbing strap on the two hoist anchors of the AC so within 15 minutes we have the air conditioner hoisted down

The grisly deed is done. All went without a hitch, with military campaign precision. The oak branch Bob chosen was just perfect without being too high or too low. We align Brunnhilde until the center of of the two hoist anchors was right under the block and tackle. The whole process took less than 15 minutes. With Bob the executioner still hoisting Mr. Kerstner on the gallows 15 feet up in the air I drove Brunnhilde out of harm's way. We summarily lower the lifeless offender and the swift justice was done.

Brunnhilde lost some weight

a gaping hole

this ladybug seemed a bit high from the faint residue of the gasoline I used to clean off the tar like caulking at the bolt holes; I helped her off the roof surface
temporary protection again the rain

I left the raised frame on for better protection against the Oregon rain for the next few days

steak with clam sauce and Chinese broccoli for dinner - the clam sauce was made with 10 small live clams

Looking ahead to the restoring of the spare tire carrier, here are a few photos I took off a 140" wheelbase T1N.
this is a very well used Sprinter for sure
