brunnhilde's propane level gauge

Very long ago, I installed a Suburban water heater with electronic ignition which allows me to switch on/off at will without the need to go outside to light the pilot light, and turn it on. To complete making the propane system the next step is to install a remote propane level gauge in the cabin so I don't need to go outside, open the propane tank protective cover and visually check the level.

brunnhilde's transmission fluid service

The dripping from the transmission would force my hands to perform the oil service including changing the connector housing together with new o-rings to stop the leak. I bought this kit long ago but just never got around to carry out the work.

brunnhilde's brake service - part 2

I wanted to check I order the correct rotors with this not so accurate improvised caliper before taking things apart

brunnhilde's power window - part 2

The left hand side of Brunnhilde's power window regulator failed 10 years ago and I repaired it better than new. I had since anticipate the right hand side one too to fail, only a matter of time rather than if it would. During the unplanned trip to Upstate New York this July it failed while on this cross country trip. Like always, the window glass dropped to the bottom. That is a major security risk. I open the door card, raised the glass and use a piece of cable tie to hold the regulator lift mechanism up. A fix would had to wait until I return to the ranch.

brunnhilde's brake service - part 1

I took an unplanned road trip to Upstate New York to bring home a Lotus race car. Returning home while inspecting the tires which two had problems and had been replaced. I needed to make a decision if a complete replacement of the entire set or just buy 2 new ones. I took the opportunity to inspect the front brakes thinking they are likely more worn than the rear ones.

carbonara

My first attempt to make authentic carbonara. A very simple dish when you have got nothing left to eat.

mexican rice

I made this approximation of Mexican rice. Very simple with no fuss.

home made char siu 叉燒 - part 2

Each time I make char siu 叉燒 the recipe is different. Also I now make a big batch in order to save time and effort. I pack the extra in vacuum bags and store them in freezer until I need more.

dim sum style braised ribs 蒸排骨

I occasionally make this dim sum style braised ribs. While when served during a dim sum they come on a small plate inside a bamboo steamer they are not steam but rather braised. The steaming is only done to reheat and keep them warm.

brunnhilde's fresh water level sensor failure - part 3

When I discovered the new replacement of the water level sensor has one less step, I wanted to rebuilt the old one that failed many years ago. However as always I had to find the dissected piece parts and that was not easy since I moved from the city to the country. With tenacity I found them after turning the house upside down literally. I set out to rebuild one with improved design that will last longer than even the "new and improved" stainless steel tube. In my view, the stainless version is in fact worst than the original one with plastic tube because of the use of a cheesy plastic plug at the submerged end.

pork tenderloin served many ways

I had four pieces of pork tenderloin in cryogenic packages. These allowed me to have plenty of opportunity to refine the preparation techniques. I wanted to achieve the doneness without overcook it minutely. The center should has a hint of pink. As each oven is different and you also have to control the temperature and time.
