servicing compact electric heater

I have this compact electric heater for a very long time. So long that it was from the era that it was made in USA. Even the racist conman-cum-president (aka Prutin's Poodle) will approve. It has saw very little use. It about 2/3 the volume of a Kleenex box so the heat is distributed by a built-in fan.

The fan inside is just one of those cheap AC fan as found inside your refrigerator. Even since new it have never run smoothly. I am all too familiar these bushings often are not adequately lubricated even from the factory. I have use the heater very little not wanting to wear out the bushings - until I have a chance to open up the heater and lubricate the bushing bearings. While there is a overheat safety switch I simply do not feel it can be trusted in the event the fan bearing seized.

In the recent deep freeze here in the Pacific Northwest I need to use this heater in Brunnhilde to protect the water systems from freezing damage. I have no choice but to open it up and service the bushings.

here you can see the cheap AC blower motor

I lubricated the two bushing bearings with a few drops of sewing machine lubricant, and clean out some dust that accumulated

The nice thing about this heater is it has a low setting for the heating elements that consumes half power - about 600W. The heater has a mechanical thermostat control, which cycles the heating element and the blower fan when heat is needed. Being so compact needless to say it is a noisy heater.

all back together to go under the bathroom floor in Brunnhilde
