brunnhilde's fire extinguisher

Ever since I bought Brunnhilde there is this mystery bracket on the base of the driver seat by the door.

I was quite sure it is for mounting a fire extinguisher. I have been wanting to find a good size fire extinguisher with a compatible bracket awhile. Recently shopping at Costco I found this 5lb ABC extinguisher on sale. I have considered buying it in the past and the discount just push me to make the purchase decision.

I have considered the logical location to mount the fire extinguisher in Brunnhilde. Because Mercedes had programmed the locking system to automatically lock all the other doors in many situations the best location for it is by the driver door. In an emergency situation this door is most likely not locked.

this is about as large a fire extinguisher i care to carry
it comes with a mount for use in vehicle or boat - the cardboard tube over the handle is just for shipping
this is where the mystery bracket is mounted
Sure enough the mounting holes of the strapped mount that comes with the extinguisher line up perfectly with the holes mystery bracket.
the holes line up perfectly

I have to poke holes on the seat base cover so the bracket would be mounted on top of the cover.

i use a soldering iron to poke holes on the vinyl cover of the seat base
as a finish touch i sand down the sharp burr on the cut edges of the stainless steel strap
as big as the fire extinguisher is, there is still almost 2 inches of clearance to the door; the stainless steel strap secures the extinguisher firmly to the braket
