this and that - hong kong 2012, part 3

This is one of many photo diary of a recent trip to Asia


arriving at my hotel near Mongkok

the room is quite good and spacious for a mid-low price hotel
 knocked off Tolomeo wall lamps
 dual flush toilet is common place in Asia
 always curious about the guts of toilet in different countries
 it has an excellent flush
my room is high up and has a "view"
bringing the flip flops is the smartest thing i did. my feet were happy to be liberated from the yoke of the shoes all day - ready to explore Mongkok's street; still have the wetsuit tan from the summer

 this camera chain has been around decades - however the camera selection is mostly consumer grade; unlike decades ago they have very little higher end gear now

needing some fabric in my digestive system i bought a Asian grapefruit from this lady - she is using a tool made of cow bone to remove the thick skin
this is the most popular new format dimsum only eatery; it is a new phenomena in recent time; this one was made famous by Michelin Star

Hong Kong is the capital of pellet guns in the world

 this one shop is the real McCoy - the food looks quite decent
 the sign say homemade Taisan salted pork zongzi 粽子
 the street vendor is taking advantage of free excess concrete given to him by the city's road crew patching the road
one of the few remaining large movie cinemas that have decades of history
a fresh fruit vendor stall on my way back to the hotel


the banyan trees cling to the stone wall on Hollywood Road is emblematic of colonial Hong Kong
 
 everything is underground so they are constantly ripping up the road to repair and update the utilities
one of the few places I saw has has genuine architectural furniture
eagles soaring over the concrete canyons
old school herbal drink shop
 a cold drink made from sour plum was one of my childhood favorite
 this dai pai dong sells an assortment of soup-like Chinese dessert - all are eaten hot
 technicians splicing communication faber-optic cables
this temple belongs to a nonprofit organization that runs a chain of public hospitals called Dong Wah Group of Hospitals 東華三院; it also runs the school next doors
 
 watch repair - but most the the work nowadays is replacing the batteries
