I had been listening to the Radio Netherlands Worldwide's "Live at the Concertgebouw" weekly programming for a long time on NPR ever since I found out it's existence. This program was a breath of fresh air as it covered performances by guest conductors from all over the world in addition to that of the house orchestra RCO. The performances were diverse with a lot of twentieth and twenty-first century compositions, unlike the tired same old, same old stuff one find in even the best big city orchestras (New York, Chicago, LA, and San Francisco) that tends to be the romantic and before periods.
Like all good things in life, you have to savor it while you could and I did. As the result of the global economic malaise brought by financial institutions, Radio Netherlands fell victim to the budget cut and eliminated nearly all it's international culture, art, and news programming in 2002. Shuttered too was it's excellent European Jazz Stage programme. Today RNW is not even a skeleton of it's former self exists merely as a sub par online news page.
RCO (Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra) have been compiling recording and releasing them as 10-year (some sets covers less than 10 years) anniversary disc sets "Anthology Of The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra - Live Radio Recordings". I have been wanting to purchase the CD box sets of the more recent decades.

Last year it was reported that they were planning to release a super box set that includes all 7 volumes. I decided to wait for the release. The release never come. Today I decided to order the two most recent volumes - six and seven. It is just as well as my taste for classical music now, with few exceptions, falls mostly in the

- Weekly Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO) (about 2 hours) - in my area is on allclassical FM station every saturday 18:00PST
- Weekly New York Philharmonic (NYphil) (about 2 hours) - in my area is on allclassical FM station every sunday 18:00PST
- Weekly Symphonycast (typically about 2 hours give or take) available streaming online. However don't bother trying with an iOS device as it requires flash player (please get on with the time, American Public Media!)
